The Swarm

Darkness enveloped us, and suddenly we were the only people in the world. The swarm chased us down the tunnel, the deep buzzing reverberating off the crumbling brick walls. The wind whooshed past as we panicked, desperate to escape the onslaught of bees.
The darkness did little to hide us. The tunnel only had one entrance and one exit, and the bees were in here with us. We couldn’t turn around. We were trapped. And they were coming.
Speed wasn’t helping us, so we slowed. The wind quietened as the queen began a banshee scream. It shattered the ear drums of the passengers, the brakes spitting sparks along the metal rails.
Dull light crept through the windows as the train stopped at the station. We waited for streams of bees to appear along the carriage, attacking those waiting on the platform, but they never came.
